In 1977 , Carlos Rodrigues began in the United States what would become a successful career in the banking sector.

There he began working at Manufacturers Hanover/ Chemical Bank, one of the largest North American banks, which would later become the giant JP Morgan Chase.

Carlos returned to Portugal in 1984 to open Manufacturers Hanover Portugal, turning it 12 years later into the most profitable foreign bank and with the highest proportion of capital in the sector.

Not satisfied with this, his concerns grew at the same time as his projects. Carlos realized the possibilities that new technologies offered to electronic banking and decided to bet on it. Carlos and Nicholas's vocation has always been to work so that people achieve their savings and investment goals, and that is how BiG was born.

25 years have passed and BiG remains faithful to its idea of ​​transmitting every day the values ​​that have represented the bank since its inception: trust, transparency, innovation, security, experience and solidity.

Even in times of crisis we do not stop growing. And we have the proof of that. Between 2008 and 2011 the financial sector was in ruins due to the subprime mortgage and public debt crisis. But even that didn't stop our growth. In 2011, while other banks were trying to get out of the financial crisis, BiG obtained a capital ratio of more than 30% .

Since 2001 the bank has not sought new capital increases with shareholders and since 2004 has regularly paid dividends to its shareholders, retaining an average of 65% of its earnings. In the year 2016 the bank was launched in Mozambique.

With these results, management continues to focus on capital allocation, liquidity management, asset quality, and maintaining a sustained profitability of the bank's business model.
